Learning to Use TrueWiring Instruments for Assessments

Assessing people is a combination of art and science. The science piece is not too difficult to learn, but the art, well, there is nothing better than experience. We can only get better as assessors by digging into the nitty-gritty detail behind the instruments and using them consistently. Each instrument has a number of scales that measure individual characteristics based on how someone answers questions.

Our courses will teach both the art and science of assessing people in the context of serving your local church. While these concepts extend beyond the walls of the church, we encourage you to keep that in mind as you use the instruments we’ve created. Each lesson on these courses begins with a video that covers the topic followed by notes for discussion, review, and a quiz.

Greg and Jeannette have years of experience assessing people. The TrueWiring suite of instruments is incorporated into Rock RMS and used across denominational lines to help leaders in many ways.

This ultimately leads these leaders to create healthy teams from which they increase their team and individual productivity through synergy.

Healthy Growing Leaders grew out of Greg’s practice of helping leaders be better versions of themselves. He has authored or co-authored four books and developed twenty different individual and organizational assessment instruments used in a wide variety of fields.  He currently leads Healthy Growing Leaders, TrueWiring, and TrueWiring4Churches.

Introduction to the TrueWiring Instruments

The bulk of the content for this course is recorded in six videos with Greg Wiens and Jeannette Flynn followed by some review notes and quizzes for each module to help reinforce key concepts. This course is designed for those who have taken the suite of instruments and want to learn more about what they mean, how to interpret the results, and perhaps more importantly, how not to label people!

Greg and Jeannette have years of experience assessing people. They could give you hours of video on stories from the trenches, ways that assessments have been misused, lives impacted, etc. Instead, this course focuses on how to read your results better.

Introduction to the Art of Assessing People

We’ve created this more advanced course for those who have completed the Introduction to TrueWiring Instruments that want to learn about the assessment process. Like the Introduction to TrueWiring Instruments course, this course also contains 7 modules with a video, details for discussion, and a short quiz to help you solidify your learning experience. The content for this course is more challenging.

Much like the Introduction to TrueWiring Instruments course, the bulk of the content for this course is recorded in six videos with Dr. Greg Wiens and Jeannette Flynn. We’ll also provide notes and quizzes for each module to help reinforce key concepts. However, this is a much deeper dive into the art of assessing people. This course is not designed for the casual observer. Instead, you’re going to learn how to use the tools of seasoned assessors to strengthen your role as an assessor in your church context.

Nothing can replace experience, but experience without training can be dangerous. Seriously. If you’ve been serving in ministry for any length of time, you feel the weight of responsibility from those you serve. The same is true of reading and interpreting reports from these assessment instruments.

Spiritual Gifts with TrueWiring

This course is intended for those who want to focus on TrueWiring’s Spiritual Gifts Assessment instrument alone. Greg Wiens and Jeannette Fleming review the basic concepts behind this instrument, explain how certain gifts are grouped into themes to help you understand the results of your report, and consistently encourage you to examine your experience serving in your local church in light of your results. Throughout the course, Greg and Jeannette focus on how gifts are used to benefit the Body of Christ in your church with an emphasis on using your results to guide your journey rather than define your specific gifts.

To provide a complete understanding of Spiritual Gifts, we have published a 60-page eBook to accompany this course. The book is available for download in the first module of the course as either an EPUB or a Kindle MOBI file format depending on your choice of e-Readers. The book updates the Overview of Spiritual Gifts (available at Amazon) to include a discussion about the three main themes of Spiritual Gifts.

Emotional Intelligence (EQ) with TrueWiring

This course is intended for those who want to focus on TrueWiring’s Emotional Intelligence Assessment instrument alone. Greg Wiens and Jeannette Flynn review the basic concepts behind this instrument, explain the scales measured, and discuss some key concepts for leaders, with a stern warning about the dangers of EQ.

Here’s the outline of the course:

The TrueWiring Emotional Intelligence Inventory (EQw) is an assessment of your developed skills in two domains: understanding your own emotions and those of others. This instrument identifies your ability to appropriately express your emotions while encouraging others to do the same. There is a huge wave of interest in this topic in contemporary literature, but this is not new! Since EQ is such an important topic, we've built a short course to help you understand how to use our assessment instrument, how to read and understand the numbers reported for each scale, some of the dangers, and ultimately, how effective EQ can help leaders improve. The course is built around 6 short videos to isolate each particular concept.
